The attached scripts are for use with Vigilant/Battleboard autodial.

They correct the problem whereby pager bureaux using the Telocator
Alphanumeric Protocol (TAP) reject messages because they contain
invalid characters (Ultracomp problem reference BATLBD/117).

The correction ensures that all pager messages sent by the TAP script
conform to the character set defined in the British Telecom document:

Interface Spec (01/03/1993)
This character set is defined as:

Characters not included above are replaced with spaces before the
message is sent, with the exception that a message consisting wholly
of characters not included above will be used in its original form.

This character set may be more restrictive than those supported by
other TAP service providers, but by opting for this one, Battleboard
minimises the chance of message rejection.

Applicable versions
===================

This correction applies to Autodial services using Ultracomp's
generic TAP protocol script UCVBPGTP in versions 1.3 of Battleboard
and earlier.

The correction will be incorporated in the general release of
Battleboard 1.4.

Check your autodial transmission-service configuration to determine
that you are using UCVBPGTP.

(See section 5.5 of the Battleboard Technical Guide for details of
transmission service configuration).

If you are using Hutchison Telecom with the UCVBPGT7 script, you
should change the transmission script to UCVBPGTP, the generic TAP
handler in order to benefit from this correction.

Installation
============

Installation can safely be performed whilst Battleboard is running
providing no autodial attempt is in progress at the time.

Change to the directory containing the Battleboard scripts.
This is usually C:\VIGILANT\SCRIPT\VB<nnn>
where <nnn> is 130 for version 1.3 or 140 for version 1.4
e.g.

C:
CD \VIGILANT\SCRIPT\VB130

Preserve a copy of the existing TAP service script as follows:
COPY UCVBPGTP.HSB UCVBPGTP.SAV

Copy the new scripts from the appropriate directory, e.g. the one
into which the ZIP file was expanded, overwriting one existing
script, for example:

COPY C:\TAPFIX\*.HSB

(answer `yes' to overwrite the file if prompted.)

Reversion
=========

To remove the correction, copy the preserved TAP script back,
overwriting the existing script. e.g.
COPY UCVBPGTP.SAV UCVBPGTP.HSB
(answer `yes' to overwrite the file if prompted.)
